McMurdo NAS.    This is a Jamesway hut being erected on the barrier ice.  It took the SeaBees about six hours to erect five buildings for the 61st.  This new camp was convenient to the aircraft.  Hot meals were cooked by Navy cooks.  Drinking water was transported in 500 gallon containers on sleds from the snow melting machines at the McMurdo Navy base.  The men were allowed one shower a week, for which they had to travel seven miles to the Navy base. .Caption by Bill Nichols.  (Circa 1959)
