HEADQUARTERS

NAAF TROOP CARRIER COMMAND (PROV)

OFFICE OF THE COMMANDING GENERAL

APO 760, U. S. ARMY

21 JULY 1943

General Williams, Commanding

Northwest African Air Force Troop Carrier Command

"The record of the performance of your command on the night of 9-10 July has given me great gratification. The accomplishment of your officers and men in carrying to their destination through difficult weather, navigational obstacles and hostile fire in unarmed and unarmored aircraft, the largest number of troops as yet lifted by air, is a signal one. Their return to base with a loss of only two percent, and their complete readiness for operations on the following night is remarkable and shows great fortitude, superior organization and training on the part of all concerned. Please convey these comments to your command."
