DYE SITE CARGO HANDLING

When the Firebirds arrived at a DYE site, each "ski bird" would be met by a D-6 Caterpillar pushing a special steel sled built to the same height as a lowered ramp. All cargo was loaded on pallets. Skate wheels in the aircraft and rollers on the sleds allowed an easy exchange of materials and a minimum turn-around time.
