C-130D Approaches Greenland Ice Cap 1959

C-130 "D" Model approaching the edge of the Greenland Ice Cap after departing Sondrestrom AB, Greenland. To land at the DYE sites, the C-130 had to climb from sea level to an altitude of approximately 8,000 ft. in 100 nautical miles--DYE II. DYE III was located approximately 200 NM from Sondrestrom at an elevation of 8,600.
