Fall Flora at Sondrestrom

Short grasses, flowers, and grass-like sedges, along with covers of mosses and lichens are the dominate forms of vegetation in Greenland. Seasonal frost heave disrupts root systems preventing proper support for tall vegetation. The tundra looks like a treeless plain. This photograph was taken between Sondrestrom AB and the Ice Cap. In the Fall, the vegetation near Sondrestrom turns from shades of green to oranges, reds, and browns.
