The Secretary of the Navy takes pleasure in presenting the

MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION

to the

17th TACTICAL AIRLIFT SQUADRON

for service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

"For meritorious achievement while conducting emergency and scheduled operations to resupply Fletcher's Ice Island (T-3), from 25 July 1968 to 17 April 1970. In the face of extremely harsh arctic climatic conditions and round-the-clock operating schedules, the flight crews and ground support personnel of the 17th Tactical Airlift Squadron carried out their highly important mission with outstanding skill and dedication. The exceptional manner in which this hazardous mission has been conducted insures the continued success of this nationally important scientific project. The 17th Tactical Airlift Squadron performance throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."

All personnel attached to the 17th Tactical Airlift Squadron during the above period, and who were actually present and participating in the operations described, are hereby authorized to wear the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon.
