Glen Allen Smith

July 3, 1938 - January 6, 1999

 

 

Mansfield, TX-- Glen Allen Smith, 60, a ground school aviation instructor, died Thursday, January 7, 1999, at home in Mansfield after a brief battle with cancer.

 

Funeral services 3:30 p.m. Monday at Moore Funeral Home.  Burial at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, N.M.  Visitations 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and a6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Glen Smith as born July 3, 1938, in Verdon, S.D., but spent most of his childhood in Texas.  He enlisted in the Air Force in 1955.  During his thirty-year career, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, seven Air Force Commendation medals, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and numerous service medals.

 

Mr. Smith became a ground school instructor for American Airlines after his retirement from the Air Force, and was employed by them until his death.

 

Survivors include his wife of thirty four years, Loretta Jean Smith, son, Mark Allen Smith, and daughter in law, Kay; daughter, Kimberly Smith Buchanan and son-in-law Christian; brothers, Marion Smith and Rodney Smith; sister-in-law, Caturia Watson; grandchildren, Lisa Smith, Connor Smith Seger, and another grandchild expected in May; and many more family members and friends.
