Thomas
Earl Huddleston fought his final battle on Saturday, October 18th 2014, surrounded
by his loving wife of sixty-five years and family. Earl was born on the 9th
of April 1922, in York, South Carolina, the oldest of thirteen children. He
joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the beginning of WWII. Earl served with the
4th Marine division of the 25th Regiment, with landings on Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo-Jima. After Korea, he
returned home to attend Georgia Tech where he earned his electrical
engineering degree. Earl joined Lockheed Aircraft as a C-130 field service
representative, and worked in many places around the world including Alaska,
Zaire, Greenland, Okinawa, Peru, Texas, and Atlanta.
He
was awarded many accolades from the Air Force, one of which was for saving
the lives of seventy-five people on board a ski plane with landing gear
trouble. Earl loved his family, his church, his friends, dancing and great
food. In addition to his wife, Sarah, Earl is survived by his children, John
and Christa Huddleston, Lisa and William Webster, Mary and David Christensen,
eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, five brothers, a sister, and
many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of
Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, on Tuesday, Oct. 21st at eleven o'clock.
Interment services will be Wednesday, October 22nd at eleven o'clock at
Laurel Hill Cemetery, Thomasville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that contributions be made to Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church -
EEE Helping Hand Fund, or the VFW. Friends are
cordially invited to visit with the family Tuesday morning from ten o'clock
until the hour of service at the church.
Note: Earl was the Field Service Representative
for the 17th TCS Firebirds in Texas and Alaska.
