Harold “Hal” Sacane, Sr.

1932-2008

 

 

Retired Major Harold "Hal" Sacane, Sr. age 75 of Clovis, New Mexico passed away January 29, 2008 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis. He was born October 15, 1932 in Monongahela, Pennsylvania to Louis and Elizabeth Richardson Sacane.  He graduated from Monesson High School and attended college at the California State Teacher's College in Indiana, Pennsylvania for two years. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and started as a flight engineer on a B-36.  Harold then was a navigator/bombardier on a B-47. He was a navigator on a C-123 during Vietnam with a special operations group and on C-130s in Alaska. He retired from the military in 1973 as a Major and received numerous commendations including  the bronze star.

During his military career he married Nancy Bell on April 14, 1968 in Clovis, New Mexico. After his retirement he and Nancy moved to Clovis where he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and cooking. He worked with the Life Saver Food Bank food drive for many years with the post office and he was a volunteer for the election polls in Clovis. He was a member of Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis, 32nd Degree Mason and Knights Templar, was a Boy Scout leader, Indian Guide leader, and a Clovis High School Band Booster.

 

He is survived by his wife Nancy Sacane of the home; son Harold Keith Sacane, Jr. and his wife Kathryn of Clovis; two daughters Karin Elizabeth Sacane, Barbara Anne Adams and husband Jason all of Clovis; two grandchildren Ansley Renee Adams and Briley Marie Adams; mother-in-law Lillian Bell of Clovis; brother and sister-in-laws. Bob and Elwanda Bell of Clovis, Karen Bell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Daria and Hugh Pittman of Milton, Florida; six nephews, four nieces and two cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, brother and father-in-law.

 

Services are scheduled for Friday, February 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Parkland Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Brooks assisted by Wayne Boydstun officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors by the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis. A visitation will be held tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be John Jones, John Aragon, Woody Taylor, Gary Elliot,  Bill  Allred,  Jason Davis, James Petrosky,  and Michael  Petrosky.  Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Stephen Haynes, Dr. Davor Vugrin, Norvil Howell, John Urban, Jim Bamard, and the Staff of Retirement Ranch.
