Sondrestrom Air Base.  On final approach to Sondy in the 1960’s.    Mud flats are in the foreground, the SAS complex is on the left behind the fuel tanks, the military base is on the right, the small hill in top center is Sugar Loaf, and the white area behind Sugar Loaf mountain is the marginal zone of the Greenland Ice Cap.  Note the small blue “aqua velva” lake just to the left of “Sugar Loaf” on the ice cap.  The azure aqua velva colored lakes are the result of melting snow and ice during the summer months.
