Operation Jack Frost

Exercise Jack Frost in January of 1976. The Firebirds have often been called upon to provide support for military exercises with names like Polar Seige in the Winter of 1964; Polar Strike in Winter, 1965; Northern Hills in June of 1965; Polar Sweep; and Northern Sun. There were many more. This support was often in the form of airlift and in providing umpires for the exercise. Pilot Nolan Bailey recalls spending the entire day on a frozen lake near Big Delta monitoring C-130's landing on the thick frozen ice. The temperature was -55o Fahrenheit.
